The importance of a lift for motorbikes which meets your needs

Written by Francesco Di Betta | March 09, 2023

Knowing the primary requirements of your workshop is the starting point for making informed and strategic decisions, both as regards your equipment and for any future renovation projects.

Since a lift for motorbikes is maybe the most important element in any efficient and effective workshop, in today's article we will be looking at why it is always essential to keep your production requirements in mind, also when choosing this piece of equipment.

How to Find the Most Suitable Lift for Motorbikes

As we mentioned in the introduction, when choosing a lift for motorbikes, you will need to be clear on your workshop's production requirements in order to find the most suitable model.

Having a motorbike lift which meets the needs of your mechanics is essential to allow them to best carry out their work, with a direct impact on the workshop's productivity and results, as well as on customer satisfaction.

Here are the questions you need to ask yourself to understand whether a lift is the right model for you:

  • How does it fit into the space?
  • What are the minimum and maximum heights it can reach?
  • Can it be equipped with accessories?
  • What safety systems does it have?

We will try to answer these for you by providing some guidelines which we hope will help you make the right choice.

How does it fit into the space?

The design phase of a workshop is fundamental.

Only through a thorough and precise design stage will it be possible to ensure efficient management of the work areas on the basis of the production flows, in order to guarantee the highest levels of performance.

Understanding where to install the lift for motorbikes is very important: it needs to be installed in a strategic position, near the workbenches in order to facilitate the mechanics’ work, reduce the spread of fluids and ensure cleanliness and tidiness.

It is also very important to determine whether or not recessed installation is possible: if so, this solution will allow you to eliminate the difference in level between the lift and the floor, contributing to a reduction in the risk of accidents due to falls caused by jolts when loading and unloading the bike.

What are the minimum and maximum heights it can reach?

A vehicle lift can achieve very specific maximum and minimum heights, and knowing these values can help you in choosing the product.

The ideal choice is a lift which offers a combination of a relatively high maximum lifting height, with a minimum height above the ground as low as possible.

With the ability to reach significant heights, the mechanic will be able to position the lift at the most comfortable height, allowing them to work safely and with their back straight, thus avoiding potential future health issues.

In the same manner, a very low minimum height – ideally with a recessed installation – means that the lift will be closer to the ground, helping reduce the risk of accidents caused due to the bike falling.

Does a lift for motorbikes support accessories?

Another element to take into consideration when choosing is whether the lift you are considering can be equipped with accessories.

The main ones are:

  • Retractable or tilting ramp
  • Front or rear hatches
  • Magnetic mounts for exhaust fumes extraction system adapters
  • Wheel locking clamps

All these features can help simplify the mechanic's job, making them more efficient.

What safety systems does it have?

There are two main types of safety systems for a motorcycle lift table:

  • Mechanical safety system
  • Electrohydraulic safety system

Mechanical safety systems have a locking rack system, manually controlled by the operator, which is responsible for keeping the lift safe.

Electrohydraulic models, on the other hand, are controlled directly by a valve, positioned at the centre of two pistons, which regulates the flow of oil between the pistons and the electrohydraulic control unit and ensures that the lift is safe at all times.

In analysing these questions we have tried to create a guide to support you in the choice of your next lift for motorbikes.
